I suspect [Thirteen] is going to be one of those albums that gets into my brain and makes me deconstruct it until I think there are grand designs and concepts underlying the whole thing until it becomes a sort of epic that is intertwined in my imagination. One of those albums that comes out every now and then. You know the kind, probably.
- Adam Selzer

Hi! We're Vixy & Tony. That is, we're Michelle Dockrey & Tony Fabris, a pair of musicians from Seattle. (We'll let you guess which one's Vixy.) We perform acoustic folk/rock/filk at SF/Fantasy conventions, filk conventions, and our friendly neighborhood coffeehouse. Here's where to find out all about us, including how to buy our albums, where to listen to our songs online, where to get our lyrics and stories about the songs, where we'll be next, and what else we're working on. Thanks for visiting!

Missing Video 23 Jan 2012 09:42am
Back on November 5th, at Wayward, someone sitting near the front (2nd row of chairs perhaps?) took a great video of us playing our cover of "Kashmir" and put it on YouTube. The image was a tad dark, but the audio was great. The video used to exist at this URL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EC9PeUKt0Q
I don't remember the user name. But the video is gone now. Does anyone remember who that was, and can we get in touch? I'd like to see that video put back up.

(Edit: User name "elfcrisis" was who put up the video, according to a reply in comments to this thread. However, that user is no longer on YouTube. Anyone know which Vixy & Tony fan "elfcrisis" might be?)

Conflikt this weekend! You're all coming, right?

Wow! 10 Jan 2012 04:01pm
We had a spectacular time at GaFilk! Betsy wowed everyone who hadn't seen her yet, of course. We got to have Amy and Mary playing with us in our concert, we raised money for Interfilk, did a lot of jamming, and generally had a great time. The banquet, which included music and dancing courtesy Play It With Moxie was incredibly fun, and Vixy got to sing a couple of songs with the band. (She says she'll blog about it soon, so keep an eye out for her con report.) Patrick Nielsen Hayden tweeted, "The #GaFilk banquet features ballroom dancing and a red-hot jazz band. It's one of the most awesome things I have ever seen at an SF con. Filkers turn out to be cooler than you are." and accompanied it with this picture of Vix singing to a dance floor full of filkers. Bill and Brenda Sutton were awesome and hilarious, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again at Conflikt in about six months or so (right?).

AND!

We're playing a set at AFK Tavern coming up very soon, Sunday, January 15th at 2pm. You will get amazing Betsy and Sunnie goodness too! Come stuff yourself on fantastic food and drink while you rock out! It's our first gig there, let's make it a doozy!

Wait, wait... 04 Jan 2012 11:15am
Wait, wait wait. GaFilk is like, a few weeks away, right? It's gotta be. There's no way it could possibly be this freaking weekend. We had all this time over the holidays to prepare... GAH! WE'RE GETTING ON THE PLANE TOMORROW?!

But seriously, we had a great rehearsal with Betsy on Monday, basically the same day Vix got back from Disney World. Oh yeah, did I forget to tell you? BETSY IS COMING TO GAFILK WITH US! (*flailing kermit arms*). You get awesome carbon fiber cello goodness all weekend! And also, you will also get Pegasus winner Amy McNally for some songs in our set!

And then we get to rest, again, right? NO! We're playing a set at AFK Tavern the very next weekend, Sunday, January 15th at 2pm. Betsy and Sunnie will be there! This is going to be our first time playing at AFK, everyone please come out to see us, and order tons of food so they'll ask us to come back!

Okay, then we can rest again, right? Conflikt is like, months away, right? Anyone...?

Whew! 05 Dec 2011 02:57pm
Wow, we had such a great time at GeekFest! Everything went so well and we had a great turnout! Thanks, everyone, for coming, and making it such a fun day! I'm looking forward to covering Eben Brooks' It's the End of 'Verse As We Know It in Filk circles, once we get a chance to learn it.

Coming up, we're going to be the Guests of Honor at GaFilk in Atlanta in early January, and we'll be playing a show at AFK Tavern coming up on January 15th at 2pm. December, though, is now all rest and holidays for us!

See you all in January!

Orycon and Geekfest! 09 Nov 2011 11:00am
It was so awesome to see everyone at Wayward last weekend! That was so much fun! It feels so good to have them back again. The place felt like home right away, just like Wayward-That-Was. And it was a huge amount of fun playing in Betsy and Katie's concert at Soulfood, thanks everyone for coming!

This coming weekend, we've got a Vixy & Tony Concert at Orycon. Our wonderful and beloved Betsy will be joining us! The Doubleclicks will be there on Friday night! And both Katie and Betsy have concerts of their own! So who's coming to Orycon?

Unleashing Something Fierce on Seattle! 06 Oct 2011 12:19pm
We had a great time in San Francisco last weekend! Thanks so much to Seanan and the crew at Borderlands for having us! Thank you, everyone who came and tolerated the sweltering heat in the bookstore to enjoy our mashup of three different bands with Seanan's unique gifts. Beckett has posted some pictures and blogged about the event here, check it out!

This week, I have been rehearsing like mad with Marian Call who has an OMG incredible awesome new album out! Seriously, trust me, you want this album. It includes many new songs that you might have heard at her live shows, but on this new album they have wonderfully intricate studio arrangements that give them all a new depth and character. I'm particularly fond of the new songs Dear Mr. Darcy, which easily has as much energy as her already well-loved "Got to Fly", and Temporal Dominoes, which, to me, sounds like the best Rush song they never wrote.

In fact, I'm going to be playing guitar for Marian at three shows coming up:

GeekGirlConCert, Friday Night, October 7th, 8pm, in Greenlake. This is going to be an incredible night! Marian will be the third act, with Molly Lewis and The Doubleclicks being the two other wonderful acts filling out the evening. I'm told there will be other things happening at this event that are related to GeekGirlCon, so it will be more than just a concert!

(I'm also planning on attending the GeekGirlCon convention itself this weekend, along with loved ones. Who else is going?)

I'll also be playing guitar for Marian at the Forza Coffee Company and Wine Bar, Sunday evening, October 9th, 6pm, in Gig Harbor. If I'm reading the schedule right, this is going to get to be a longer show, with a chance to hear more songs in her repertoire, including some of her newer stuff.

And here is the SUDDEN SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT of a Vixy & Tony Show at Soulfood Books on Wednesday October 12th, at 7pm. We will be playing a short set, accompanied by Betsy on cello, opening for Marian. At around 7:35, I will then play guitar for Marian's concert. This is Marian's last concert here in our area for a while, and it's the first local Vixy & Tony coffeeshop gig in a while, so you should all come catch this show! It's going to be great!

It's a geeksplosion! 19 Sep 2011 01:58pm
Wasn't CSTS great!? We had an awesome time! For those who missed it, Cheyenne was our emcee once again, joined by Daniel Wolf, and they were just great. The band and friends arrived in a group costume as a gender-bent Firefly cast, including Vixy as captain Mallory Reynolds, me as ship's mechanic Kyle Lee Frye, and Sunnie as pilot Hannah 'Wash' Washburne. For pictures, have a look at this photomotion video by CSTS event photographer Kat Cheney. It's awesome!

Update: More pictures from my camera on Vixy's Flickr Account, here.
Update 2: More pictures on the CSTS facebook account here.

Ready for more awesome? How about Geekfest in Lynwood on December 4th? It's put on by SB Charities, the same folks that brought you last Saturday's CSTS event. We'll be there playing with Betsy and Sunnie! There will be other awesome musical guests including Seanan McGuire, The Doubleclicks, The Eben Brooks Band, and the most awesome minstrel himself, Alexander James Adams. There will be a great Vendor Fair at this event, grab this if you're interested in being a vendor. Get your tickets now!

For those in the Bay area, Vixy & Tony will be playing at Seanan McGuire's One Salt Sea Book Release Party on October 1st. This will be an awesome shindig which will include The Bohnhoffs like last time. It was amazing last time, so don't miss it this time!

In other news, I'm going to be playing guitar for Marian Call in three different gigs the weekend of Geek Girl Con! The bigest event for me will be the Geek Girl Concert happening on Friday Night, October 7th, in Greenlake. I'm very excited about sharing the stage with four of my favorite artists: Marian, Molly, and The Doubleclicks. Tickets on sale now!

Worldcon and CSTS and Wayward! 21 Aug 2011 11:30pm
Worldcon was awesome! So many fun and amazing things happened that I can't begin to list them all, so I'll hit the highlights.

Click here to read highlights of Worldcon 2011 )

Oh hey, here's a quick reminder about something we've got coming up: We're playing a concert on September 17th at Can't Stop The Serenity just like we did last year! Slightly different member lineups, as Marian Call will be in Europe and Sooj will be playing the Faerieworlds Harvest Festival, but it's still going to be an amazing day! Here are the details!

And I'm very excited to report the following news:

The Wayward Coffeehouse is coming back!

They have secured a new site in the Ravenna area at 6417 Roosevelt Way NE #104, and are hoping to open by late October. They're still looking for donations to the Wayward Phoenix Fund to get them back on their feet, so go help!

Reno! 22 Jul 2011 03:04pm
We have a concert at Worldcon!

It's going to be a fantastic time! Everyone is going to be there! Tricky Pixie, Jeff and Maya Bohnhoff, Seanan McGuire, and a whole bunch of other wonderful people.

Hopefully we'll get to cram the stage with all of our favorite musical friends and rock the house down!

One of the best parts is that Seanan is nominated for a Hugo this year! (For Feed under the name Mira Grant.) We're so excited for her!

In other news...

What a great weekend! 26 Apr 2011 02:33pm
Thanks to everyone who came to our Kenmore show and our Norwescon concert! We had a huge amount of fun at both places, but Norwescon was just mind-blowing because the room was just so packed full of energy and people (160, according to Dara). And Torrey won all the things with her dayglo Na'vi costume we created together.

For those who enjoyed the Norwescon show, or for those who wish they'd been able to come to the Norwescon show, please come to SoulFood Books in Redmond tonight for a Heather Dale concert at 7pm. She's amazing! We'll be there cheering her on! Check out the Heather Dale web site for more information about her music.

Also, we've got a Catherynne M. Valente reading at Third Place, coming up on May 23rd, we'll be there with Betsy playing a few songs! Come make it a fun night!

Coming up: Kenmore and Norwescon! 27 Mar 2011 08:53pm
We had a fantastic time at the last few gigs, playing for Marian in Fremont, going to see Carla and Joe at Consonance, and playing at Seanan's release party for Late Eclipses. We loved getting to hang out and play with our friends the Bohnhoffs, which was a special treat.

Now that we're back and settled, it's time to do some local shows!

First of all, we've got a Vixy & Tony show coming up, on Saturday, April 16th, at 7:30pm, at the Kenmore Community Club. It's going to be great! We'll have Betsy and Sunnie being our sublime string section, and for a special treat, we'll have Katie Tinney opening for us. You might remember Katie from Conflikt earlier this year, and she was awesome!

Doors open at Kenmore at 7pm, and the admission price is whatever you feel like putting in the donation jar (suggested: ten bucks or so).

If you've been to the Kenmore Community Club before, you'll remember that the place is huge, so help us spread the word and bring everyone you can get your hands on! We want to fill the place! Tweet, retweet, blog, um, reblog, you know the drill!

Then, one week later, we'll be playing in prime time at Norwescon 2011, Saturday night, April 23rd, at 9:00pm. We'll be opening for Heather Dale and Ben Deschamps, our wonderful friends from Canada, and we'll be joined by Betsy and Sunnie again! And you just know we're going to be doing some band-blending like we always do, so it's going to be just awesome. Don't miss it!
